I am very sorry to hear the sad news that Stuart's innings has ended.
I have known him since my school days in the late 1940's. He was one of the first pupils at the Hove County Grammar School and at one time ran their Old Boys Cricket team (HCOBACC) and later was secretary of The Sussex Downs CC. The Downs was then a young club and without a regular home ground retained its fixtures mainly by its prowess at after stumps activities. In those days we held our committee meetings either in The Portland or on Sunday mornings in Stuart's fathers shoe shop, where I bought my first proper pair of cricket boots, without surrendering the then number of clothing points!
Stuart was one of the most enthusiastic cricketers; not the best of bats he could nevertheless hit the odd six. However if the ball climbed high in the air and if he was around a catch was odds on!
He has given a life time of unstinting service to cricket and was a true sportsman, gentleman and friend, one who even if you had not met for some time always remembered you.
He will be greatly missed.
